High Tea in Yangon

The best way to experience the old colonial splendor is with an afternoon high tea. The British seized Yangon and all of Lower Burma from 1852 to 1948. During the colonial period,  British established basic infrastructure such as hospitals and universities, and Yangon was a mix of modern buildings and traditional building architecture, with spacious parks with lakes which I will show you more on my next blog.

Afternoon High tea at Strand cafe was highly recommended from other travellers. My first impression about the hotel was high ceiling and fancy colonial style with black and white tone. The service was a bit slow but I did really enjoy the environment here.

I went there a little bit early so I ordered a Mohinga for lunch. It was real comfort food. fish soup and banana stalk was a great combination.

Menu

For High tea, I ordered Myanmar High tea set with just simple Americano. The presentation of food was beyond the expectation. Food was served in tiffin tray,  savoury and pastry treats were in right amount. Ginger salad was real refreshing. Chicken spring roll was serve hot with sweet dip. Duo sticky rice was another interesting dish.

Rice dumplings stuffed with Palm sugar was absolutely delicious, this dish was similar to one of my favourite Thai dessert "Khanom Tom". The rest of caked and pudding were great and there were surly worthy of the calories. My fresh brewed organic Myanmar coffee was good.
