Yangon Walking tour

For almost century from 1852 until 1948, Yangon become a colony of Britain and  the center of Colonial Administration. The Construction during colonial era were a mixture of European classical and neoclassical style.

As the result of closing off the country to the rest of the world until late 19th century, the city remained much like a century ago.

For this trip, I have appointed with one of walking tour company for 3 hour walking. The trip was about 15 dollar excluded tip.

Our local guide appointed our group at Mahabandoola Park which are the large public park located in downtown.  After everyone was gathering up together at 9 am., we walked to one of a symbol of Myanmar's Sovereignty -  the independent monument. This Obelisk was here since 1948 replacing Queen Victoria Statue.

At the time I went there, there were some couple in traditional wedding gown around the monument taking their pre wedding picture. Our guide explained that people were registered their marriage certificate at the court near by and they came by for keeping good memories.

We then continued walking along Pansodan Rd. which was once the most prestigious address and today this road is still lined with various  famous Colonial buildings. The first building that we walked into was Telegraph and Post office. In one Conner of this building, there are some old phones, Telegraph and other equipments displayed.

In this tour, we had a chance to visit inside old building which have not been renovated. Surprisingly, people were still living or even setting up small business such as food stalls, hostel or grocery stores in these hundred years old building. The lift inside was broken long time ago but I could see some of the vintage interior decorations inside. most of green marble flooring and stainless steel Banister were still in good condition up to these days.

Our group were walking along Pansodan Rd. for about 1.6 kilometre. Heritage building and modern building were standing next to each other. Every building had its own long histories and it was absolutely enjoyable to learn.
